The wait for Roopkund is almost over.
With the post-monsoon trekking season approaching, the Roopkund trail is once again preparing to welcome trekkers into one of the most fascinating landscapes of the Uttarakhand Himalayas. From the forests around Lohajung and Didina to the vast alpine meadows of Ali and Bedni Bugyal, the trail gradually climbs towards the rugged high-altitude terrain of Patarnauchani, Bhagwabasa and the legendary Roopkund Lake.
At Roopkund Heaven, our September–October 2026 Roopkund Trek season is scheduled to begin from 19 September 2026.
Roopkund Trek – Current Season Update
Region: Uttarakhand
Base Camp: Lohajung
Maximum Altitude: 15,696 ft
Trek Duration: 7 Nights / 8 Days
Trekking Distance: Approx. 53 km
Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult
Best Season: Mid-September to October
The second half of September marks an important transition in the mountains. As the monsoon begins to withdraw, the landscape around Ali and Bedni Bugyal remains beautifully green, while clearer weather windows gradually improve the views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
The upper sections beyond Bedni Bugyal are significantly more exposed and demanding. Trekkers should be prepared for colder temperatures, rapidly changing mountain weather and the effects of increasing altitude as the route progresses towards Bhagwabasa and Roopkund.
What Will the Roopkund Trail Look Like in September?

One of the biggest attractions of a September Roopkund trek is the contrast in landscapes.
The journey begins around Lohajung at 7,650 ft, followed by forest trails towards Didina. As trekkers climb higher, the dense forests eventually open into the spectacular grasslands of Ali Bedni Bugyal trek.
Beyond the meadows, the character of the trek changes.
The route climbs towards Patarnauchani at approximately 13,500 ft, followed by Bhagwabasa at around 14,500 ft. Vegetation becomes sparse, temperatures fall and the terrain becomes increasingly rocky and exposed.
The final climb leads towards Roopkund Lake at 15,696 ft, situated beneath the imposing Trishul massif.
Upcoming Roopkund Trek Batches
Roopkund Heaven’s upcoming September batches are scheduled for:
19 September 2026
20 September 2026
26 September 2026
27 September 2026
October departures are also scheduled throughout the month.
These post-monsoon departures are planned during one of the preferred windows for experiencing the Roopkund trail.
What Trekkers Can Expect on the Route
Lohajung to Didina
The trek begins from Lohajung and gradually takes trekkers into oak, rhododendron and Himalayan forest terrain. This section provides the transition from the roadhead into the wilderness of the Roopkund trail.
Didina to Ali Bugyal
This is where the landscape changes dramatically.
After climbing through the forest, trekkers emerge onto the enormous alpine grasslands of Ali Bugyal, with expansive Himalayan views opening up around the trail.
Ali Bugyal – Bedni Bugyal – Patarnauchani
The route continues across the celebrated meadows of Ali and Bedni before climbing towards Patarnauchani.
This section is particularly important for acclimatization as the trek moves rapidly from approximately 11,000 ft towards the 13,000 ft altitude zone.
Patarnauchani to Bhagwabasa
From here, the trek enters serious high-altitude terrain.
The green meadows gradually disappear and are replaced by rocky slopes, exposed ridges and colder conditions. Bhagwabasa serves as the high camp before the final approach towards Roopkund.
Bhagwabasa to Roopkund Lake
The final climb towards Roopkund Lake at 15,696 ft is the most demanding section of the journey.
An early start, controlled pace and proper acclimatization are essential. At this altitude, weather and trail conditions can change quickly, and the final movement should always depend on the assessment of the trek leader and ground team.
Weather Advisory for September Trekkers
September in the Himalayas is a transition period, so trekkers should come prepared for varying conditions.
Lower sections can experience occasional rain and wet trails, while the higher camps can become considerably colder, particularly during the night and early morning.
Trekkers should carry proper waterproof protection, warm layers, gloves, head protection and trekking shoes with reliable grip.
A trekking pole is particularly useful on wet descents and uneven high-altitude sections.
Roopkund Is Not a Beginner Trek
Despite its famous meadows and beautiful landscapes, Roopkund should not be underestimated.
The trek reaches 15,696 ft, involves multiple days of continuous altitude gain and includes a demanding summit-day-style push towards the lake.
Trekkers should arrive with good cardiovascular endurance, leg strength and prior trekking experience wherever possible.
More importantly, trekkers must be willing to follow the instructions of the trek leader regarding pace, acclimatization, weather and turnaround decisions.
Roopkund Heaven Ground Note
For us, a successful Roopkund trek is not simply about reaching the lake.
It is about moving safely through every stage of the journey—from Lohajung and Didina to Ali Bugyal, Bedni Bugyal, Patarnauchani and Bhagwabasa—while allowing the body enough time to adjust to increasing altitude.
Weather conditions, trail conditions and individual fitness will always determine the final movement of a batch.
The mountains decide the pace. We respect it.
Preparing for Your Upcoming Roopkund Trek
If you are joining one of our September or October departures, use the remaining time to focus on regular cardio training, stair climbing, strength exercises and long walks.
Break in your trekking shoes before arriving, avoid carrying unnecessary weight and make sure your rain and cold-weather gear is suitable for Himalayan conditions.
Most importantly, arrive physically prepared rather than expecting to build fitness during the trek itself.
Next Roopkund Trek Update
As our first September batches begin moving from Lohajung, we will continue sharing updates from the trail—including batch movements, campsite progress, weather observations and conditions from different sections of the Roopkund route.
The Roopkund season is about to begin.
And after years of waiting, the trail to one of the Himalayas’ most mysterious lakes is calling trekkers once again.
